It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Concepcion Laqui on September 14, 2024. She is survived by her husband, sister, four children, and four grandchildren with one more on the way. Concepcion was born in the Philippines on December 7, 1944 and lived an abundant 79 years of life.
Concepcion moved to the United States in 1968 and met her future husband in New York City in 1969. They married in 1973 and moved to Teaneck, New Jersey where they raised their four children.
Concepcion worked for the New York City Board of Education for over 20 years. She was a dietician assigned to schools in Manhattan and the Bronx. Her second career was in nursing. She cared for private patients as well as for many elders in various nursing homes in Bergen County. She was a phenomenal caregiver who believed people deserve to live with dignity.
At home Concepcion loved being creative through crafting, decorating, fashion, and baking. She was known for her Sans Rival dessert, a layered cake of cashew meringue and French buttercream. Family gatherings she hosted are loving memories filled with delicious food, joyous laughter, and line dancing.
With an independent spirit and call to adventure, Concepcion traveled the world. She spent her life living it to the fullest. Taking in the sights and sounds of each trip brought her so much joy. She loved trying new food and appreciating the beautiful variety of life all over the world. From her honeymoon in Spain to hiking through the Swiss Alps. Concepcion graced this earth with beauty, kindness, and connection to humanity.
Concepcion passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends in her final days. She will be celebrated for a life well-lived. Her family will remember her as a powerful source of light and love.
