Desiderio R. Reynoso

October 14, 1932 — January 29, 2024

Teaneck

Desiderio R. Reynoso passed away on January 29, 2024.  A resident of Teaneck, NJ for 51 years, Desi, was born in Sariaya, Quezon Province, Philippines.  The first of his family to emigrate from there, Desi originally resided in Los Angeles before moving across the country to Queens, NY and then finally to the New Jersey suburb.  He was a graduate of the University of the Philippines where he received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Ateneo de Manila University where he received his MBA.  After nearly 30 years of service, he retired from Con Edison in New York City as a Sr. Project Engineer.

Known as a rock to his vast family network, Desi relished the opportunity to serve as a host or guide whenever any family member or friend visited the East Coast.  He voraciously embraced all that New York City offered and wanted to share it.  He loved to take in Broadway shows, enjoy the Met Opera, eat in Chinatown, and bargain for goods on Canal Street.  As an early adopter of technology, before Facebook and Messenger, Desi wrote frequent e-mails filled with stories about the Reynoso clan to keep his siblings, cousins, nephews, nieces, and the younger generations of his family connected.  When not in the city or online, Desi enjoyed spending time in the water.  An avid ocean swimmer since his youth, he frequented the municipal pool and had a gym pool membership well into his eighties.

Family in northern and southern California, Banff, Toronto, and Montreal, and in the Philippines will miss their beloved Kuya, Tito, and Ninong Desi.  He was the oldest of six children born to Irene and Sotero Reynoso. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his youngest brother, Ricardo Reynoso. He is survived by his brother Sotero Reynoso, Jr., and three sisters, Redencion Reyes, Sor Pasion née Adoracion Reynoso, and Veneracion Reynoso.  He leaves behind two children, Elizabeth and Joseph (Tempe) Reynoso, and grandchildren Cassandra and Serena, who will miss their doting Lolo.  He died one week after his 52nd wedding anniversary to his wife, Erlinda Fe, who survives him.

Desiderio was buried at Maryrest in Mahwah after a private funeral at his last parish, St. Joseph RC Church in Bogota, NJ.  A Requiem High Mass will be offered for the repose of his soul at his daughter’s parish, Our Lady of Sorrows in Jersey City, NJ on April 20, 2024 at 11 a.m.
