Donald J. Griesback, 78, of Wrightsville, PA passed peacefully on September 27, 2024 at Lancaster General Hospital surrounded by family.
Don was born in Teaneck, NJ and was the son of the late Frank and Anne Hopkins Griesback. Don was a graduate of Bogota High School in Bogota, NJ where he played on the football team. After high school, Don went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon returning to NJ, Don served as the Captain of the Hackensack, NJ Fire Department as well as the Fire Chief of the Bogota, NJ Volunteer Fire Department.
Don and his loving wife, Linda A. Flinchbaugh Griesback, got married in 1967 and celebrated 56 loving years of marriage in October 2023.
Don was an avid trivia buff and enjoyed watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and completing the daily New York Times crossword puzzle. Don also enjoyed spending his free time fishing, camping, bowling and watching his favorite New York sports teams.
Don was also a very active member and sponsor within the AA community in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Don will be remembered as someone who was quick to help anyone in any way they needed as well as someone who made everyone laugh and wanted to see the people around him happy.
Don is survived by his beloved wife Linda of Wrightsville, PA; his daughter, Sherry Dapcic of Elmwood Park, NJ and son, Chris (Emily) Griesback of Carrollton, GA; his grandsons Alex Kazias and David Dapcic both of Elmwood Park, NJ, Tyler Griesbach of Seattle, WA, and Brendan and Jacob Griesback both of Carrollton GA; brother Tom (Rosemary) of Nutley, NJ, sister Elizabeth "Betsy" (Tom) of Hartland, VT and brother William "Billy" (Margaret/ "Peggy") of Kunkletown, PA as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Visiting hours will be from 4-8pm on Thursday October 3. Funeral Service Friday, October 4, at 10am, followed by a Fire Department procession through Bogota, NJ. No Graveside services.
