Dorothy Marie Lydecker (nee Widmer), 97, passed away on September 22, 2021. Dottie was loved and adored by all who knew her and she will be deeply missed. Originally from Luke, Maryland, she was born to Samuel and Dorothy on March 16, 1924 and had one brother, Samuel (Sam). She was a proud alumna to Penn State University, where she graduated with a degree in home economics and was a lifelong Nittany Lions fan.
Dottie’s life changed on July 15, 1945, when she was first “introduced” to William (Bill) Ross Lydecker when he wrote to her while serving in the U.S Army Corps during WWII at the urging of his sister, Betty (who was dating (and later married) Dottie’s brother Sam). Bill mentioned in his letter that his sister had told him Dottie was fond of horseback riding, good music, and dancing, saying “that about sums up my favorite pleasures too.” Bill and Dottie married on Flag Day in 1947, shortly thereafter moving to the house they shared in Teaneck, NJ, where they spent many years of happiness enjoying their favorite “pleasures,” and where they raised their two loving daughters Dianne and Linda. Dottie was the devoted wife of the late Bill and mother of Dianne (Peter) Sweeney and Linda (Paul) DeMuro. She was the loving grandmother of Anne Marie (Ronald) Poll, Gregory (Jill) Sweeney, Kimberly (Jason Newman), Nicole and Christopher (Bobby Wherry) DeMuro, great grandmother of Emily (Nick) Brady, Sean (Courtney) Donovan, Kate, Jack and Jena Sweeney and Connor and Liam Poll and great great grandmother of Maeve and Indigo Brady. Dottie was a constant source of love and faith for her family and all those she knew. Her wonderful fun loving spirit regularly expressed itself in a flair for making every encounter a celebration. She enjoyed travel, dancing, horseback riding, and sharing stories with family and friends. She created elegance and magic with her cooking, sewing, gardening and homemaking skills. Dorothy was a longtime communicant and Eucharistic Minister at St Joseph Church Bogota. Her life and death exemplified a love of and deep faith in Christ.
