Edward P Sweeney

Edward P. Sweeney of Bogota, NJ, age 56, entered eternal rest on Saturday October 10, 2020 peacefully in his sleep.  Born in New York City, New York, he was a son of the late Donald P Sweeney.  Ed is survived by his mother, Geraldine Sweeney (nee Brady); and his siblings: Donald Sweeney and his wife Joanne, of Florence NJ, Gretta Gallagher and her husband James of Waldwick NJ, Geraldine LaBonge and her husband Oliver of Surfside Beach SC and Paul Sweeney and his wife Suzette also of Surfside Beach, SC; nieces and nephews: AnnMarie, Amanda, Ashley and Alish Gallagher, Kevin, Kelly, Patrick and Mary Sweeney, Tyler, Morgan and Blake Startt, Kevin Bayani, Dillon, Devon, Cameron and Brennan Rodgers. Also surviving are his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.

Ed’s laughter filled the room with warmth and his voice welcomed everyone.  He was the first to offer a lending hand and the last to leave a good party.  Ed’s spirit will forever live on in the hearts and generosity of the legions of young men and women from Bogota,  NJ, and beyond, whose lives he touched, whether through coaching Basketball, mentoring in business or just being someone who listened.

He was informed recently that he was nominated and elected Bogota Citizen of the Year, an honor he cherished and was excited to receive.  He touched everyone he loved, and he loved everyone!  By all accounts, he spent his last day doing what he enjoyed most, watching a Yankee game with friends.

Viewing will be held at Petrik Funeral Home 140 Palisade Ave, Bogota, NJ 07603, Thursday October 15, 2020 from 2 pm – 8 pm.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church 115 E. Fort Lee Rd. Bogota NJ at 11 am. Due to Covid-19 Restrictions, and Ed’s wishes to protect everyone, the Funeral Mass will be limited to 100 invited guests.  The Family requests that, as much as everyone loved Ed, only those invited show up to the Church.  The family will be honored to welcome everyone to the viewing.
