John A. Mussomeli, 90, of Bogota, NJ, passed away Friday, December 15, 2017 in his home with his loving wife Mary of 54 years by his side. John is also survived by his daughters JoAnne (Michael) Ciraolo, Marie (David) Brooks, Diane (Alex) Amador, and his son Michael. He is also survived by his grandchildren Megan and Theresa Ciraolo; Andrew, Amanda, and Elizabeth Brooks; and Dylan and Ashley Amador. He was preceded in death by his loving parents (Rosario and Josephine) and nine brothers and sisters. John is also survived by his brother-in-law (Bob), sister-in-law (Lorraine), many nieces and nephews, and cherished friends. Born in NYC on April 6, 1927, John was a Bogota resident for over 45 years. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 at age 17 and proudly served in the Pacific Theater with the Seabees, the US Naval Construction Battalion. Additional military service included the Korean Conflict and, prior to his honorable discharge, John participated in the construction of Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia. He retired from Bergen Pines County Hospital and NYC Sanitation. Honor, duty, love of family, and loyal friendship were John's passions in life. In addition to love of his family, John enjoyed westerns and the TCM movie channel! He was also a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph's Church and member of VFW Post 5561. Viewing will be held at Petrik Funeral Home,140 Palisade Ave, Bogota, NJ on Thursday, December 21st from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 22nd at St. Joseph's Church, 115 East Fort Lee Rd, Bogota, NJ at 10 a.m. followed by interment at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in John's name to the St. Joseph's Church in Bogota, NJ or the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
