Joseph “Joe” Dobish peacefully passed away at the age of 96 on March 6, 2025 at his home surrounded by family. A beloved father, grandfather, and cherished member of the community, Joe leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth, touching the hearts of everyone who knew him. Joe was a devoted husband and is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Helen (Martin) Dobish, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and companionship. Together they built a beautiful life in Bogota, NJ where they raised their family. Joe is lovingly remembered by his children, son Michael and his wife Patricia, and daughter Kathleen and her husband Michael Ruehl. Joe was a proud grandfather to his four grandchildren—Kristen, Michelle, Nicole and her husband Memo, and Christopher. His children, their spouses, and his grandchildren brought him immense joy and filled his heart with pride. Joe was also adored by his many nieces and nephews - who fondly remember his kindness and generosity. Joe is predeceased by his parents Sophie and Joseph Dobish and his brother Jack Dobish. Born in Forest City, PA, on December 25, 1928, Joe was raised in Guttenberg, NJ, where he developed a love for life and a work ethic that would define him throughout his years. After graduating high school, he served his country with honor as a corporal in the Military Police during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.For 38 years, Joe worked diligently at Sears Roebuck & Co., first in Hackensack, then finishing out his career in Paramus. After his retirement, he continued to stay active, taking on a part-time role at P&G Auto Parts in Hackensack. Joe built a reputation as a hardworking and dependable employee. Joe had an infectious love for life. He was an avid skier, cyclist, and tennis player, always on the move. He also had a passion for music and was a dedicated member of the Garden State Harmonica Club, where he played and performed for years. A long-time parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Bogota, Joe served as a dedicated collection volunteer, giving his time to support the community that was so important to him. His faith and generosity were evident in all aspects of his life. Arrangements for Joe will be cremated and a memorial mass and celebration of life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans, honoring his memory. Joe’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His unwavering devotion to his family will be deeply missed.
