It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of LeeAnn Powner on September 17, 2024, at the age of 62. She was an army wife, supermom, sister, and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness, warmth, and unwavering generosity.
Born on October 10th, 1961 in Teaneck, NJ, raised in Bergenfield, and a resident of Bogota for the past 32 years. She was known for her absolute dedication to her friends and family.
LeeAnn was the cherished wife of her husband John with whom she shared 40 years of loving marriage. The beloved mother of John and his wife Melissa, and Jason and his wife Yvette. She was also a dear sister to George Zaccaria and his wife Jeanette, and Michael Zaccaria. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pasquale Zaccaria and Josephine Zaccaria.
LeeAnn worked for the City of Paterson Public School District for close to 30 years. She began her journey at School One as a preschool teacher and spent the last 20 years as a Resource Teacher working with Kindergarten to 5th grade special needs students.
LeeAnn's devotion to School One was seen above and beyond the walls of the classroom. She volunteered her time to many fundraising events throughout the years, all in which helped School One evolve to what it is today. LeeAnn's passion for learning and sharing knowledge with young and experienced minds alike will always be treasured.
An avid cook and baker who took on any and all recipes as a personal challenge, and always loved baking traditional dishes such as Easter pies and Christmas cookies. LeeAnn also had the passion, patience, and vision for arts and crafts, especially when it included others to spend some quality time with friends and loved ones. Acts of service was her love language and she used all of these skills to say she loved you often.
A service to honor LeeAnn’s life will be held on September 22nd between 12-4 PM at Petrik Funeral Home, 140 Palisade Ave, Bogota, NJ. She will be cremated prior to the service and her ashes will be present. Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate her remarkable life and the indelible impact she had on everyone who knew her.
LeeAnn Powner’s spirit of love and compassion will forever remain in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donating to LeeAnn’s school through DonorsChoose where she herself had posted 20 projects and reflects her lifelong commitment to helping others.
