April 16, 1925 — June 12, 2018

Teaneck

Marguerite Markevitch, 93, of Teaneck, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving daughters Teresa, Patricia, Lorraine, Kathleen and Maureen and beloved pets, Maggie & Gizmo by her side. She lived a great life and was loved by all her knew her! She was born on April 16, 1925 in Bronx, NY, the daughter of the late Kenneth O’Brien and Mae (McDonnel) O’Brien. As a young teen and into adulthood, Marguerite took opera lessons for many years and was a successful soprano. In the early 1950’s she performed Madame Butterfly on Broadway and performed a solo at the Metropolitan Opera House with the Glee Club.  She gave up her career to marry the love of her life Leo Markevitch and to raise their five daughters. They met when they received Holy Communion when they were 7 years old.  A love story they shared with everyone.

She shared 60+ years of her life with her beloved husband Leo before his passing 8 years ago.  In addition, she leaves her daughters Teresa McEllen and her husband Bob of Lakewood, NJ, Patti Visconte Robinson and her late husband Mark Robinson of Hampton, NH, Lorraine Castelluccio of Teaneck, NJ, Kathleen Jacobus and her husband Jake of Warwick, NY and her beloved daughter Maureen Markevitch of Teaneck, NJ. She was the beloved “Gram” to her grandchildren Trisha & Jessica McEllen, Richard, Stephen, & Kevin Castelluccio, Ricky & Cristina Visconte, Mark and Bryan Jacobus and her beloved great-grandchildren,, Justin, Logan, Devon, Alyssa, Jace, Hailey, Ashton, Anthony, Aubrianna, Addison, Dylan,  Mason, Mia, the late Kayla Castelluccio and the late Brendan Novak. Another precious great grand-daughter is due any day. Active member of St. Joseph’s parish since 1962 and sang in the choir for over 25 yrs. Marguerite and Leo (Gram & Pop Pop/Papa) left a legacy of faith, family and love.  Teaching all who knew them the importance of family and most important, a sense of humor to help you get through life. We are blessed that she was there for our first breath and we were there for her last.
