Peter Hugh Maguire

Peter Hugh Maguire, 84, of Bogota, NJ peacefully passed away Sunday Dec. 13th at home surrounded by his loving wife of 53 years, Bridget J. Maguire (née Ward), his sons Peter H. Maguire, John P. Maguire and Stephen O. Maguire.

Peter was born Feb 13, 1936 to Peter H. Maguire and Kate Ann Maguire (née Mcgrail). He was raised in Glangevlin, County Cavan, Ireland alongside his older sister Margaret Maguire. Peter was a farmer during much of his early life in Ireland and in his late twenties attended technical school learning carpentry before immigrating to New York City in 1965. Peter met his wife, Bridget, at an Irish dance in NYC and were married in Dungloe, Donegal, Ireland in a Catholic ceremony before settling back in NYC. The family lived in Sunnyside, Queens, where Peter was the superintendent of their apartment building, before moving to Bogota in 1975. He was a 50yr member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America and spent a large chunk of his career as a member of Local 608. He then moved on to work for the City of New York prior to his retirement in 1999.

Peter will always be remembered for his incredible work ethic, his quiet yet humorous demeanor, his kindness, human decency, his love of Ireland, America and family. He was a long time regular listener of WFUV’s A Thousand Welcomes Sunday Irish Music Program.

Peter is survived by his wife Bridget (née Ward) sons Peter and his wife Stacey, Stephen and his life partner Lisa Smith, son John, grandson Hugh Maguire, granddaughter Sienna Maguire and his loving sister Margaret Maguire who resides in Dungloe, Donegal, Ireland alongside the Ward Clan from which Bridget came from. Visitation will be held at Petrik Funeral Home 140 Palisade Ave., Bogota, NJ on Sunday December 20, 2020 from 2-5 PM. Funeral Mass at St.Joseph's R.C. Church on Monday December 21, 2020 at 11AM.
