Raymond Vicente, age 91 passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023, in Rutherford, NJ while being cared for at the home of his youngest daughter.
He was born on December 23, 1932, in El Barrio, Spanish Harlem, NY and lived the majority of his life in Bogota, NJ where he was a well known and beloved neighbor who could often be found mowing lawns and shoveling driveways as a way of helping others. Raymond was very social and was often referred to as "The Mayor" due to his warm and welcoming demeanor combined with his knowledge of the goings on locally, statewide and beyond. He was a regular presence at the polls making sure everyone got out there and voted, so that their voices were heard and counted.
He spent a few years living at Five Star Premier Residences in Teaneck, NJ where he thrived with a new sense of purpose and community in his final years, making connections and even finding love again with his girlfriend Sandra Cate.
Raymond was part of the Screen Actor's Guild (SAG) and could be found acting in Jay Z's music video "Hard Knock Life" as well as in shows like Law and Order and NY Undercover.
Raymond, although a picky eater loved his mother's Puerto Rican food best (his daughter Amanda's food is a very close second!), and rarely turned down a can of Coke or chocolate chip cookies. 7 layer cake and a hot cup of coffee.
Raymond will be missed and has left many fond memories to those that loved him. He was reliable, generous, hardworking and respectful, when he wasn't busy being silly or cracking jokes. He loved making the kids laugh, 1000 piece puzzles, playing poker, reading the paper, watching sports and being with family and friends.
Raymond was preceded in death by his mother Francis Cruz, father Concepción Vicente and sisters Carmen Morales and Lydia Vicente as well as his partner of 48 years. Frances McPhillips.
Raymond is survived by his sister Rebecca Cicero, daughters Rebecca Vicente and Amanda Vicente-Hackshaw as well as sons Anthony and Edwin Vicente. He is also survived by his granddaughters Brianna, Selena and Lexy Hackshaw as well as his grandson Sebastian Vicente.
The family will receive their friends and loved ones for visitation at Petrik Funeral Home, 140 Palisade Avenue, Bogota, Saturday, January 6, 2023, from 9am-12pm.
